The Great Passenger Ships of the World Raoul Fiebig Frank Heine Frank Lose 9783782212458 Books Reviews

  • This very useful book presents a brief listing of all passenger ships exceeding 10,000 gross registered tons - 858 ships. Nearly every vessel is illustrated by a color photo along with basic details and the IMO (International Maritime Organization) number. The listings are presented chronologically by building date, and most ships are listed under their original name - - exceptionally useful when you're wondering "whatever became of the XXX." The oldest ship in the book - the first listed - is STOCKHOLM of 1946, the ship that collided with and sank the ANDREA DORIA. There is no attempt to list every owner/operator or operating routes, but the principals are given. Most pages have three ships to a page. There are four very useful appendices Cargo ferries and temporary passenger ships; Former passenger ships (incl. UNITED STATES, HIKAWA MARU, QUEEN ELIZABETH 2); Passenger ships under construction (with the latest newbuild scheduled for completion in 2022); and Passenger ships withdrawn since 2010, with good data and images on the final fates of dozens of ships. Measurements are given in metric, not Imperial/English. Great value.
  • Excellent book. It give ocean liner lover a good update as what has happened to newer ships almost 20 years old or less. A great follow up Arnold Kludas "Great Passenger ships of the world."
  • This is the finest book on contemporary passenger ships I have ever seen.
  • Excellent continuation of series in full color.
