Red Cap G Clifton Wisler Books Reviews

  • Red Cap was a boy prisoner at Andersonville Prison for over a year.. While the book was written for a youth audience, the book provides usual information about internment at Andersonville.PVT Ransom T. Powell enlisted asa drummer boy in a West Virginia Infantry Regiment against hte wishes of his father. Ranom was only 13 years old. He hailed from Eckhart Mines in Allegany County, Maryland. His first enlistment ended several days later when his father intervened, but Ransom went to West Virginia and enlistment a second time without his father's knowledge. While at Andersonville, he served as an orderly for Captain Wirz until he fell from favor and was sent back to the prison compound. His fellow captives helped him survive the horrors of the camp.he was known as Little Red Cap because of the hat which he wore. A good read especially for children and grandchildren.
  • This book was well written & well researched. Wisler told a compelling story of a 13 year old who lies his way into the Union Army during the civil war and who is eventually captured & sent to Andersonville prisoner or war camp. This book is great for adults as well, for anyone interested in a historical novel about how the Civil War was. I highly recommend it.
  • This book tell a story about a young boys life in the Civil War. From the moment he leaves home on this exciting adventure he sees war and prison life for what it is. It shows that even the person has in prisoned him can show acts of kindness and become friends. With the way Wisler wrights his book. You see war for what it really is through the eyes of 13 year old boy. At times this book just tares at your sole.
  • As advertised.
  • Great Storytelling and true! Perfect for kids...and adults!
  • Bought this for my 12 year old grandson, who is avid about the Civil War. I read the first few pages, and the author writes in a way about this character which is absorbing and real to the time.
  • Perfect!
  • Red Cap is one of Ransom J. Powell nicknames the other one is RJ. He lives in Frostburg, Maryland. He signs up for the Union army as a drummer boy. While he was in the army he sees a big battle. The battle makes him have more respect for the men fighting. He is taken as a Prisoner of War during a raid, and taken to prison. He is taken to two prisons and the last one was the worst, and that is the one he stays at the longest. At the camp many people died. Will Red Cap die or live; you will read this book and find out what happens.

I would recommend this book to war story lovers or and people that like action and adventure in their book.

I liked every thing about this book besides the ending it was ok. The end was kind of hard to follow, but you might not think so.
