• I really enjoyed reading this book, with its evocative rendering of the life of an immigrant Irish family in Australia. The portraits of the author's grandparents, who fought for Irish independence, were especially poignant. The book is such an enjoyable read that one wants to learn more about this family.
• I was charmed by this lovely little book, reminiscent of Jill Ker-Conway’s “Road from Coorain” and Laura Ingalls Wilder’s “Little House on the Prairie, made all the lovelier by its musical background. I loved the era and the writing really took you there.
• Thoroughly enjoyed reading about this family’s journey from Ireland to Australia and on to today. A beautiful story of family and love and he music that binds us all together.

It painted such a vivid picture in my mind as to what it must have been like growing up as Irish immigrants in Australia - embracing their new land while holding on to the traditions of old. It was also fascinating to read about how the parents put such value on the musical educations of their children which ultimately broadened their horizons and gave Maureen the opportunity to venture out into the world. Highly recommended!
• The Irish people have a powerful heritage of storytelling and this author will not disappoint. I loved the weave of family during a particular time, the cloak of Irish history, and the importance of music in this devoted family. The voice of a young spirited girl is perfect for this story.
